777 Sports Entertainment Group CEO James Po Ho Cheung Murdered
Written by Kelli SmithgallOn December 15th, the bullet pierced body of the CEO of 777 Sports Entertainment Group; James Po Ho Cheung was discovered inside his parked Cadillac outside of his Vancouver, Canada home. Gunshots were heard around 2:00a.m. Saturday morning as reported by neighbors to police.
A Forensic Crime Unit has been investigating Cheung’s vehicle and crime scene. Multiple gunshots were fired into Cheung but police will not say the exact amount of shots fired or the types of weapon(s) used in the killing.
At this time, although there are no suspects or exact cause of motive behind this horrid crime, there is speculation this crime was committed because of Cheung’s illegal activities in recent years. He was charged in 2001 with four counts of money laundering. Federal Prosecutor Peter Eccles was in charge of the case and on Tuesday stated that the slain CEO was a bit player in the case. In the money laundering charges, Cheung acted as liaison between gamblers and the associates who were able to exchange small bills like 20’s into one $1,000 bill. Cheung was also allegedly associated with the underground world of crime. The Nevada Gaming Commission feels Cheung may have been in trouble financially stemming from the US online gambling regulations; this may have lead him into additional illegal activities.
Coroners performed an autopsy Monday, December 17th; no details have been released yet. He is survived by his wife Sandy Wong.
777 Sports Entertainment Ltd. operated an online gaming and sports betting site, 777betz.com which is no longer a working site. They are licensed under the Chimera 2 Suite; a company that provides online as well as wireless platforms.
