Canada is Told to Ban Online Gambling
A Canadian gambling researcher has told the country to clarify and tighten their laws against online gambling. Robert Williams, of the University of Lethbridge at Alberta, asserted that online gambling results in four times the number of incidents of problem gambling as land based casinos. He then went on to ask the national government to prohibit this form of wagering. He spoke before the Waterloo Region Action Group on Gambling Issues, Williams noted that a demographic change indicates that college students and others in thier twenties are becoming the largest group of gamblers.
He also noted that online casinos and gambling hold more attraction and danger for the younger crowd due to thier higher level of computer skills. Poker has been noted as the game of choice among player as it attracts 60 percent of all online gaming in Canada. Williams says that skill games have avoided laws that precluded games of chance, but still can cause problem gambling.
