Grant Brebner to Get Help for Gambling Addiction
Grant Brebner has admitted he needs help with a long standing gambling addiction and has apologized for gambling on A-League matches. Brebner is the midfielder for Melbourne Victory and was fined last week for betting on two games that included one Victory match. Brebner was also suspended from playing the sport. Brebner admitted he had made a mistake and commented that it was not easy for him to talk about. “Some of you are aware of my past and the problems I have dealt with, but I’ve stayed on top of this for some time, stated Brebner. He went on to say that he had a lapse and he is going to get help.
The latest bet placed by Brebner was on Melbourne’s opponent in the Asian Champions League while he was in Australia injured. Brebner did not travel to Thailand with his teammates. Brebner has stated that his decision to gamble on matches was ‘the biggest mistake of my career’ and that he has let a lot of people down. He also commented that he is committed to beating his gambling problem.
Two other players where penalized for betting on A-League matches. The team captain of Victory, Kevin Muscat and Queenslander Roar defender Craig Moore were found guilty of gambling as well.
