Head of Gambling Operation Pleads Guilty
The Gin Rummy Club was a Denver gambling and loan sharking operation run by Jeffrey Castardi. The clientele of the organization included well-known media personalities and athletes. Castardi recently pled guilty to racketeering on Monday. Castardi pled guilty to one count of violating the Colorado Organized Crime Control Act and he will be sentenced on December 14th. Castardi faces up to twenty four years in jail. There was a list of lesser charges against Castardi but those charges have been dropped. This will allow him to avoid more jail time.
The gamblers of the Gin Rummy Club are considered witnesses so they were not prosecuted by authorities. Castardi’s wife was also indicted in the case. Dawn Wolf pled guilty to a similar charge and will be sentenced on November 16th.
Others who helped Castardi in his business were also charged. Daniel Rieke was sentenced to six years of supervised probation for felony tax evasion and professional gambling while Laura Jean Fouty received a four year deferred sentence for violating COCCA.
