US Government Continues to Seize Online Gambling Funds
A few months ago the United States government began to seize online gambling funds from player’s accounts. Now, this past week, six more bank accounts have been seized by the US government. Many of the accounts frozen have been connected to Full Tilt poker and PokerStars. The accounts associated with the seizures a few months ago were frozen by the government because the accounts contained funds that were used to pay out US online customers. The most recent seizures came from Wachovia bank. The warrants of seizure were issued in Baltimore, Maryland.
Bob Brice, a Legal Analyst for CGW, commented that this move by the government does not seem to be passing over. Brice states that the government is using a law that allows them to seize accounts used for money laundering and they use this law to go after the online gambling sites.
Several government officials in the US are trying to change laws that will help those who enjoy online gambling. The officials want to see online gambling regulated in the United States and the UIGEA overturned. Officials are set to bring new legislation before congress in the coming months.
